Yaz has always had a deep connection to nature and the outdoors. Growing up in a remote setting with her single mother and brother shaped both her outlook on life and the path she has chosen.

“My childhood was completely wild and free, skiing to school in the winter, roaming the hills until dark in the summer, and foraging whatever was in season with my mum.”

She spent many years working as a ski coach across Europe and Canada, but would always return to Scotland during the summer months to take on freelance outdoor work and create wellbeing experiences in unique, nature-based settings.

“I never imagined myself founding a non-profit organisation, but it feels like exactly where I’m meant to be. Wilderness Wellbeing is rooted in lived experience, particularly my own journey with poor mental health. I openly share my 15-year battle with chronic cystic acne and the impact it had on my wellbeing. Being able to offer others a space to breathe, connect, and share their own experiences is incredibly powerful. Watching people slowly shed their protective layers and feel safe enough to be themselves is truly special.”

Today, Yaz works as a backcountry ski guide in Scotland during the winter, while running Wilderness Wellbeing full-time, supported by a dedicated team of directors, family, and facilitators.

Her passions lie in the mountains, whether skiing, free-diving, or simply being immersed in nature—as well as in her genuine curiosity and care for others.
