Come Closer to Skye

Set on a three-generation family croft on the Isle of Skye, this is a weekend to slow down, reconnect and experience the island in a way that feels both adventurous and deeply grounded.

Held by Emma, Ben and their family, the croft is an evolving place of rest, connection and more natural living.

A Place to Slow Down

Surrounded by wild views, open skies and the ever-changing elements, the croft offers a rare opportunity to step away from the noise of everyday life and settle into the rhythm of the land.

This isn't a conventional retreat venue.

It's a home-grown, heart-led space with a quiet honesty to it.

Living More Lightly

The home and guest spaces have been created slowly and thoughtfully, using natural materials wherever possible.

Hempcrete. Clay plaster. Timber. Simple, considered design.

For Emma and Ben, sustainability isn't about perfection. It's about learning, adapting and making choices that feel more connected to the land, the seasons and the future.

"I loved that this wasn't a retreat with a lot of sitting about (though you are absolutely free to do that if that's what you want to do!) and, after embracing every activity on offer, I felt so energised! "

Space to Rest. Space to Explore.

Over the weekend, you'll be invited to gather, rest deeply, spend time outdoors and reconnect with the wild beauty of Skye.

There is space to be adventurous.

Space to be still.

And space simply to enjoy the simple pleasure of being somewhere truly extraordinary.

Time to Restore.

Emma's mum, Gill, will offer reflexology sessions from the croft's therapy space — adding a gentle and restorative element to your time here.

Activities

> Free-diving: With our fully qualified instructor Hannah Wright, at the remote lighthouse island Eilean Sionnach.

> Sea Swimming: If you're feeling brave, a dip in the water is an invigorating start to the day!

> Guided Mountain Day with Mountain Leaser, Yaz: Route to suit group's ability

> Restorative yoga and breath-work: A truly accessible to all class with Sarah, focusing on breath, relaxation and mind/body connection

> Optional Reflexology from Gill (Emma's mum who lives on the croft)

> Outdoor cooking and dining

> Interactive talks about marine conservation and sustainability on the island on in Scotland

Above and Below the Waterline.

This retreat is about experiencing Skye from both above and below the waterline.

Together, we'll freedive from the remote lighthouse island of Eilean Sionnach, summit one of Scotland's rugged mountains and explore the island's breathtaking coastline and crystal-clear waters.

Understand the Waters We Explore.

Alongside the adventure, we'll take time to better understand the fragile ecosystems that make these places so remarkable.

A local marine scientist will join us to share insights into the kelp forests, seabeds and marine life we'll be snorkelling and freediving amongst.

We'll also explore the simple but meaningful ways we can help protect these precious habitats for future generations.

Adventure with Awareness.

This is an invitation to experience wild places with curiosity, respect and responsibility.

Every element of the weekend is designed to foster a deeper connection — to yourself, to others and to the natural world around you.

Move through wild places with curiosity, respect and responsibility.

Kit List

We recommend the following:

  • Movement - sports kit and trainers. You will be able to dry things but best to have extra sports kit if possible. Hiking boots if you feel more comfortable in them for a walk but not essential-  I am always in my trail runners.
  • Waterproofs and warm layers!!
  • Swim kit and towel for some cold water dooking - it could be useful to bring booties or crocs.
  • Yoga/Pilates - Sarah and Eve bring all that you need, however if you are attached to a matt then by all means bring it. Same applies to a nice blanket and then comfy clothes for yoga.

Introducing Ben and Emma

Emma and Ben made their way back to Skye in 2014, ready to start a new chapter with their first baby. For Emma, it was a homecoming—she grew up on the island, and they’ve now returned to her family’s croft to put down roots. Both spent years living abroad: Ben as a diving instructor in places like Thailand, the Philippines, and Oman, and Emma working in outdoor centers across Japan, Oman, and New Zealand.

Now, they’re creating a life in Skye. Ben, with a passion for sustainable building, has built the island’s first Hemp House and Cabin, focusing on eco-friendly, breathable structures. Meanwhile, Emma has teamed up with her friend Amy to open The Selkie Collective, Skye’s first sustainable refill shop. On their croft, Emma and Ben are focused on rewilding, planting trees, and boosting biodiversity—bringing their love for the environment right to their own backyard.
