Alastair is a traditional painter, based in the central West of Scotland of his birth. Roaming the hills, he is predominantly focused on crafting large landscape paintings using natural materials.

Everything from the linen canvas prepared in the old manner, to the pigments he forages and grinds down to use to reflect the landscape he knows so well.

For the last few years he has developed a passion to share the knowledge of painting he has gathered over the years studying around the world, from New Zealand to Norway, and is happy to host group paint making lessons and one to one sessions from his home in the Scottish countryside. He has lead courses on preparing canvas using traditional methods, foraging pigment from the landscape and turning it into viable paint, brush making, out in the field landscape painting from life, studio workshop practice and much more.

He exhibits regularly in Glasgow at the GAC and can be see live painting at the Edinburgh art fair every year. With his large canvases collected far and wide, he hopes to bring a sense of remembrance to our culture, that our role as human beings is to be loving stewards of the land and take care of the world no matter how large or small our capacity may be.
