Bringing People Together for Wellbeing in Nature
Wilderness Wellbeing CIC, nestled in the heart of Moray within the stunning Cairngorm National Park, is built on the values of community, connection, and collaboration. Our mission is simple: to make positive mental health a right, not a privilege.
At the core of our work are transformative residential retreats, offering subsidised places for those in need. Beyond that, we host live talks, corporate wellbeing packages, and community-focused day events, all designed to foster resilience, healing, and growth.
Our Vision
✦ Breaking down financial barriers so that mental wellbeing is accessible to all.
✦ Creating a thriving, inclusive community that embraces a holistic approach to mental health.
✦ Providing a safe, supportive space where people can share, listen, and connect—reducing isolation and celebrating the strength of community.
Our retreats have the greatest social impact, equipping individuals with lifelong tools for wellbeing, including cooking and preservation skills, mindfulness, movement, and creative expression.
These life-affirming retreats provide more than just rest—they offer hope for the future.

About the founder
I’m Yaz! Raised in the Braes of Glenlivet in the Cairngorm National Park, the outdoors has always been an integral part of my life. Living simply and having total freedom in the hills as a child, naturally fed into my career as a Ski instructor and back-country guide.
I am passionate about this work through my own lived experience of poor mental health. I battled a skin condition for 15 years which made me feel isolated, anxious, depressed and unable to live my life and perform daily tasks.
I travelled down many medical routes and was hugely disappointed with the lack of support from the medical system. I deeply desired a community to spend time with who understood what I was going through.
There is a need for this as in this climate more and more individuals are silently struggling and not everyone desires to seek professional help. People need alternatives for positive mental health and there isn’t enough holistic help out there that is inclusive as the costs of attending are not subsidised. I plan to make this change in the well-being industry.
"Yaz’s Wilderness Wellbeing retreat was truly transformative for me. Before attending, I was struggling to come to terms with the car accident that had upended my life. The combination of physical activity, nature, the creative arts and deep mental health work offered at the retreat, helped me see things from a new perspective.
I learned to forgive myself, accept my past, and find strength in my resilience. Yaz’s compassionate guidance and the supportive community she fosters made all the difference in my healing journey. I left the retreat with a renewed sense of purpose and hope for the future." - Ben

A weekend filled with warmthI’m going to treat myself to a Wilderness Wellbeing retreat every year!
Yazzie has the most unflinchingly positive attitude of anyone I know. Time with her leaves you feeling inspired to give anything a go.
She makes you feel good about yourself and seems to genuinely care about helping you achieve your goals.

Yazzie has the most unflinchingly positive attitude of anyone I knowI took a lot of new practices not only from the workshops but the chats with fellow group members.
3 out of the 4 workshops I took part in I had never done before so learned from these and have already implemented them into my daily lifestyle and family life.
Just firstly want to say that thank you doesn’t even cover it for having me part of the incredible weekend! You and your family are a powerhouse and so inspirational.
To try and articulate how the weekend impacted me is hard, but I’ll try! As you know, due to my TSW I’ve had a mad year and coming home from Thailand has been a challenge and a half, navigating my old life with its new rules dictated by my skin had got me in a dark place mentally and honestly I didn’t realise how much I’d isolated myself until coming to your home for the weekend! It was confronting in the best way possible to be out of my ‘safe space’ that I’d created for my skin to be ok, and suddenly out of control of the people I saw, the food I ate and the environment I was in.
The first evening I was almost crippled with social anxiety that I haven’t felt since I was a teenager, it was then that I realised how I was living was not healthy. Relaxing into the weekend the next morning with smaller groups and connecting with Alice and others in the Juicing workshop made me feel like myself again and was such a relief, I’d be longing for that sense of community that just ‘get it’ since leaving thailand and the clinic full of patients with the same condition as me.
My state of mind on Friday compared to leaving your home on Monday was completely night & day. Hearing such vulnerable stories being shared with people that were not long ago strangers was so powerful and really gave me the kick up the arse to stop letting my condition make my life limited and my vision for the future small. I can’t tell you how grateful I am, what you’ve created can only be described as pure magic and I can’t wait to be back and hopefully be able to share my story one day!

CourtneyThe warmth of Yaz and her whole team , The welcome and inclusion that made everyone feel so at ease.
The tranquility of the setting. The abundance of skills and knowledge that were shared at the workshops by such “couthy” people with bags of integrity!
A sense of peace and wellness. An absolutely amazing weekend full of fun, laughter and tears.
Made to feel very welcome by the family and staff, they couldn’t treat us any better. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the experience was amazing- So many different events that was accessible for everyone.
The food and hospitality was one of the best I have ever had. Always made to feel welcome always there to support. The weekend was made special by the group of people that were there. I took part in events I had never done before stepping out my comfort zone but made to feel very comfortable in these events as well. The knowledge of the staff was amazing and took time to explain everything.
Will definitely re visit to this special place.

What can I say? I have no words to describe how wonderful weekend you organised. You and the team went the extra mile to makes us all feel welcome and part of the community. I do usually struggle a bit in social settings but I felt at ease. It was the perfect “me time escape” I could wish for. I came back home refreshed, energised and with a happiness I have not had for a long time (3 years to be precise). This retreat in nature and surrounded by genuine people had a magical effect on me.

A retreat in nature and surrounded by genuine peopleAn incredible wilderness retreat
It’s hard to describe how incredible a wilderness fitness retreat is, never mind adding the majestic Torridon into the mix!
Thank you so much, Yaz for creating something awesome. You nailed it!

An incredible wilderness fitness retreatA much needed trip
I couldn’t talk highly enough for this event, The family and team are very friendly and professional in their approach.
The welcoming made me feel at ease which calmed the nerves. To learn new skills and have plenty opportunities to chat with fellow members was incredible.
The talks at nights were powerful and real. A much needed trip to progress my own journey even further.
A much needed tripI had a subsidised place which without the financial assistance I would not have been able to attend the retreat.
I can not express my gratitude enough for this as it was so beneficial for me to be able to speak so freely about things that i have kept locked up for so long, and spend time in such an amazing place with such incredible people.
A subsidised placeSea loch dips and mighty long walk up Beinn Aligin
A fabulous weekend in Torridon, with the greatest team. Joyful and so inclusive (age and ability). This is my third Wilderness Fit and am so looking forward to the next one (where are we going Yaz?). Outdoor exercise, lifting rocks, mountain climbers upside down on a tree, pull ups – all the regular gym stuff but in the fresh air, using nature.
Chances for sea loch dips, a beautiful massage and some interesting encounters – foraging mushrooms, fermenting sauerkraut, fiddle music evening and a mighty long walk up Beinn Aligin in the blazing sunshine. What could be better?

Wow, what an amazing experience! Yaz and her team have created something truly special and it was a privilege to spend the weekend with wonderful people in a stunning setting, eating wholesome and delicious food and taking part in amazing activities.
I loved that this wasn’t a retreat with a lot of sitting about (though you are absolutely free to do that if that’s what you want to do!) and, after embracing every activity on offer, I felt so energised!

A beautifully balanced dayMeeting so many strong women was a definite highlight for me
Time stood still for me this weekend. I was a bit apprehensive coming to a retreat on my own but I did not need to worry as Yaz and her team gave us such a warm welcome.
The calming atmosphere was inspiring meeting so many strong women and learning from their disciplines (yoga, fermentation, strength training, pilates) and was definite highlight for me.

Meeting so many strong women was a definite highlight for meThe first time I spoke with Yas I knew that not only was she creating something special at her retreat but the benefit that it would give some of our lads from ANDY’S MAN CLUB. I attended the first one with my colleague and both of us were very nervous about what to expect. Within minutes of entering the family home we were made to feel a part of the family straight away and that led to an amazing weekend of self discovery.
I know I grew on that first retreat and even seeing Kenny grow and learn to cook and challenge himself was amazing. The biggest challenge with anything is that first step into the unknown but everyone on the team helped take those steps. Such a special place to hold the events as well which makes it even better.

Alex (Andy’s Man Club)Deep work for body and mind
Yaz’s outdoor fitness sessions are way better than a gym, great fun and easily replicable on your own turf. The yoga was like no other yoga class I’ve attended, this was deep work for body and mind. And the professional massage and fermenting workshops were cherries on the cake! To do all this in the spectacular setting of Torridon, with outdoor swimming, hot tubs and live music was a balm for the soul.
Deep work for body and mindJust thank you – was honestly such a magical way to begin the year and I hope to always be reminded of my time up in Glenlivet for years to come hope to book into Torridon !!!

BenI never said anything over the weekend as I wasn’t ready to share, but the main reason my anxiety was so bad was because just before the retreat I was at the funeral of a young person I worked with and looked after. She was my key child and it hit me so hard. I didn’t think I would be in any state to participate in the retreat. I’m so glad I decided to push myself.
From the hug Yaz gave me on arrival to the friendly welcome from all the other attendees, it all made me feel welcome and started to ease my troubled soul. The food throughout the weekend was absolutely amazing and helped bring everyone together over mealtimes. The stories that were told over the weekend were so inspiring and all aimed at helping us heal. I did so many firsts over the weekend and learned so much from everyone I talked to.
I left the retreat feeling the best I had since the news broke of the passing of the young person. My batteries were recharged, my soul less troubled and I had made some great connections. It was my first ever wellness retreat and the community and friendship shown by everyone guarantee it won’t be my last.
Darren (Andy’s Man Club)
Darren (Andy’s Man Club)Our experience at The Wilderness Wellbeing Retreat in May was mindblowing. From the moment we stepped out of the car – seeing happy smiley faces all around, breathtaking views and such silence….astonishing. Being immersed in nature(I know that sounds weird) and taking part in various workshops designed to connect you with your surroundings was an experience that we will never forget & will talk about for many years to come.
Then there is the food!! Wow. So natural, tasty & clensing! Nothing was too much trouble, we felt comfortable & ‘at home’ from the get go & we will as a support group guide people to this wonderful bit of paradise for some TLC.
There is something about being surrounded by lovely people, scenery & care. Just wonderful x

What a rad weekend!
Woah what a rad weekend! Thanks so much Yaz for bringing us all together in such a lush space, for the super fun wilderness fit sessions i’m so excited to get out in the woods & explore, I definitely had muscles working that don’t always get to.

What a rad weekend!Mental health has always been a mystery to me. I knew people who struggled with it, but I never truly understood—until one night, I couldn’t sleep. That one night turned into weeks of lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. I went to the doctor. They gave me tablets. When those didn’t work, they gave me different tablets. Then different doses. Still, nothing helped. It wasn’t until I stepped outside the traditional health system that I began to heal. Attending Andy’s Man Club set me on a path of self-healing and wellbeing.
When I signed up for the wellbeing retreat, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew I’d be sleeping in a tent and that there would be other people there. But when I arrived, I was welcomed by Yaz and her family like I was one of their own. It was beautiful. Within minutes, a group of strangers felt like family. I found myself doing things I’d never tried before. I had time for myself. I met new people. I ate three meals a day—which, for me, was an achievement. As someone who rarely puts their own wellbeing first, I left that weekend with a whole new perspective on life. I even shared my story of surviving suicide. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I felt safe—at home. Getting that weight off my shoulders gave me the drive and motivation to be myself again. And through the conversations that followed, I know I made a difference to others too. I stopped overthinking the week, the month, the year—and started focusing on today. Because tomorrow is tomorrow.
I’m a better person now—for my partner and my daughter. But I can’t help but ask: why isn’t this available more locally? I had to drive over three hours to find Yaz, and that journey was nothing compared to what I gained from that weekend. This kind of retreat should exist all over the UK. It would save lives—and I say that from experience.
