Our very first Community Hill Day took place on Sunday 3rd May 🌿

Five friends gathered at the yurt for a slow morning- coffee in hand, the fire crackling in the yurt, Yaz woke up to a grey, misty sky with a bothy mission in mind.  A relaxed lunch spread was laid out for folk to make their piece-  local cheeses, wild garlic pesto, fresh bread from KJ’s Bothy Bakery, and homemade date & tahini balls—simple, seasonal, and made to be enjoyed on the hill.

From there, we headed out with a bothy adventure in mind. The plan soon evolved, as they often do in the hills, and we decided to take in a 730m hill along the way. While the summit kept its views hidden in cloud and mist, it offered a satisfying cardio kick and a real sense of shared effort.

From the ridge, we dropped off-path and heather bashed our way down into one of Yaz’s favourite hidden places, a quiet, almost secret fairy glen. The landscape softened as we followed the river winding gently through the valley, eventually leading us towards our bothy stop for lunch.

It was a full and rewarding day out, challenging in places, but always enjoyable, with space to chat, laugh, and take in the landscape at a human pace. A proper “day oot”.

One of the group shared this reflection afterwards:

“Such an amazing day with Yaz leading the community hill walk. The route was challenging while still really enjoyable, with plenty of time to chat and connect as a group. We stopped for lunch in the most beautiful spot, and the food and cakes Yaz provided were absolutely delicious—perfect fuel to keep us going! Yaz clearly knows the landscape like the back of her hand and shared so many interesting points and stories along the way.

I’m so grateful to have spent the day in such a stunning setting with great company. I can’t wait to join another walk and would highly recommend it.”

A brilliant first Community Hill Day- and just the beginning.
